Edward Miller, Chief Executive Officer of LumenVox, is deeply committed to expanding LumenVox’ strategic vision, technology and business strategies. As a CEO of multiple companies, Ed has developed telephony hosting facilities which handle billions of minutes per year. With multiple patents to his name, he has also led the design and deployment of state-of-the-art Voice infrastructures, using cutting-edge artificial intelligence applications.
Ed lives in San Diego, CA. He holds a degree in Computer Science from Hillsdale College and a Masters in Computer Science from San Diego State University. Ed has a deep passion for humanitarian efforts, specifically for the homeless, which he contributes to in his spare time. Camping, Hiking, Mountain Climbing, River Rafting and Adventure trips punctuate his vacations.
Chief Financial Officer
Dan Albosta is responsible for overseeing all financial operations for LumenVox. He has over 20 years of experience with technology companies and has held positions of CFO, Director of Finance, and Corporate Controller in both startup and Fortune 500 companies. He has worked at Microsoft, Qualcomm, and a number of small technology startup companies.
Dan lives in Carlsbad, CA. He holds a BS degree in Accounting from Regis College and a Masters of Business Administration from The University of Pittsburgh. Dan is an avid runner and enjoys traveling around the world.
Chief Information Officer
Jim Blake is responsible for LumenVox’ Information Technology. He came to LumenVox in 1999 after studying Computer Science at Coleman University. In his tenure at LumenVox, Jim has designed and implemented complete IVR solutions, has gained extensive database experience designing and implementing a distributed multi-terabyte database system to handle personal user information, call center integration, accounting integration, marketing data and reporting as well as creating numerous high availability distributed architecture solutions and managing a data center with over 200 servers.
Jim spends his spare time with his wife and their new daughter and remodeling his house that was built in 1939. Jim is also a great short order cook and spends every Labor Day running the kitchen at his family’s restaurant in Wyoming.
Chief Revenue Officer
Shawn Edmunds, Chief Revenue Officer, comes to LumenVox with over 20 years of Sales and Management experience across AI, Telecommunications, Analytics, Speech, and Biometrics verticals. He has been an active leader in the industry, driving new marketing opportunities as well as building highly successful Sales Teams across the Americas. He has worked with major industry players like Nuance, Nokia, and West Communications. At LumenVox Shawn directs the sales organization to ensure market presence and top-line revenue exceeds set goals and drives coordination between Marketing and Product to accelerate market presence.
Shawn holds a BA in Organization Communications from Arizona State University, with a Minor in Advertising and Marketing. In his spare time, Shawn is an avid runner and enjoys traveling with his wife and two boys.
Javier Perez, Chief Scientist, is responsible for leading LumenVox’ research department. He has spent his entire career working with speech processing technologies and doing research in many different areas: speech recognition, speech synthesis and voice biometrics. Since joining VoiceTrust in 2012 (now LumenVox), he has been actively engaged in the development and improvement of all biometric engines (both voice active and passive authentication engines, and face recognition). Since the LumenVox-VoiceTrust merger, he leads the research department and is responsible for the whole core speech technology stack, incorporating the newest ideas and features to offer state-of-the-art solutions at all levels.
Javier holds a PhD. in Speech Processing from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Speech Processing) from Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, and a M.Sc in Electrical Engineering (Signal Processing and Communications) from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Javier loves spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors and the mountains, and is a passionate photographer.
Chief Product Officer
Joe Hagan, Chief Product Officer, is responsible for the LumenVox product portfolio. For more than 20 years, Joe has directed high performing Product Management, Strategy, and Marketing teams across a diverse set of technology companies. Prior to joining LumenVox, Joe established the Product Management function and built out the marketing organization for CiBO Technologies. He also worked with Aspen Technology, where he was instrumental in restructuring the software simulation portfolio to better serve large enterprise customers. Joe’s experience enables him to effectively build and grow high-value software products, implement robust marketing technology platforms, and restructure product roadmaps so they meet the needs of global customers.
Joe lives just outside of Boston, holds an MBA from Boston University, an MS in Operations Management from Lesley University and a BS in Management from the University of Massachusetts. In his spare time, Joe enjoys reading, running, and spending time with family and friends.
Managing Director, Europe
Bettina Stearn, Managing Director of LumenVox-Europe, started her biometrics career in 2002, developing the first website of the company and introduced quality measurement for the first products of German-based VoiceTrust (now LumenVox). She quickly emerged as a natural company leader and developed the first voice biometric Common Criteria Certification. She continued to implement voice biometric solutions for customers as a pre-sales engineer across Europe, and was appointed Managing Director of VoiceTrust’s European Headquarters in 2011. She was also a key leader in the IPO and contributed to several strategic activities, most significantly the merger with LumenVox in 2018.
Bettina holds a Master’s Degree in Geoscience and Remote Sensing from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In her spare time, she is a sports and yoga enthusiast as well as a passionate reader.
Senior Vice President of Voice Biometrics
Matt Whipple, Senior Vice President of Voice Biometric Sales, has spent his entire career harnessing the power of the human voice. He worked with industry giants Nuance and Avaya, acting as an IVR Solution Architect, services seller and Voice Biometrics sales team member. Along the way he transformed the industry, integrating Voice Biometrics in Canada’s financial institutions and introducing a phone-based deceit detection product to the global market. But what really sets him apart is his genuine excitement for the unlimited applications of Voice Biometrics.
Matt lives in Lafayette, California (near San Francisco). He holds a degree in Physics from Purdue University. He is a part-time chauffeur to two teenagers, swims regularly, cycles occasionally, and if time allows, can be found in the mountains or on the coast fishing.
Vice President, Business Development
Jeff Hopper, Vice President of Business Development, is an industry veteran who meets clients exactly where they’re at—providing services such as solutions design, support and product training. He worked in similar roles at IBM, Siebel and Nuance, leading Sales engineering and solution consulting teams, and now brings over 20 years of expertise to the table in every niche of Speech technology, including speech recognition, in-bound and out-bound customer self-service applications, Customer Relationship Management (CRM applications), multi-channel contact centers, call routing and more. Although he acts as the leading educator at LumenVox, Jeff is a lifelong learner and recently completed a Certificate Programs at MIT’s Sloan School of Management in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
Jeff lives in Seattle, WA. He holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Lambuth University. He is an avid traveler and amateur photographer and is proud to have knocked 50 states and over 20 countries off his bucket list.
Vice President, Client Services
Rob brings 20+ years of customized software solution delivery and leadership experience to LumenVox. He started his career at Boston Technology, the original voice messaging solution provider, where he worked his way up from being the youngest Production Manager to leading the Asia-Pacific sales team as Program Manager. From there, he moved on to Soma Networks where he was responsible for delivering broadband fixed wireless solutions to all of their worldwide customer base. He then created Program Management Offices at Trustwave and Interactions, where he was responsible for the customization and delivery all of Virtual Assistant/Artificial Intelligence solutions. Rob’s approach has and always will be customer-focused, making sure to understand requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
Rob has a Finance degree from Boston University. He lives just north of Boston where he enjoys playing golf in the summer, riding snowmobiles in the winter and rooting for his hometown sports teams all year long.
Dr. Clive Summerfield
Dr. Summerfield has pioneered the adoption of speech recognition and voice biometrics in both the public and private sectors. As a recognized subject matter expert, he brings over 40 years of experience in speech synthesis, speech recognition and voice biometrics to the LumenVox team. He is a named inventor on more than 20 patents and has worked to integrate voice biometrics for citizen authentication by the Australian and New Zealand governments, and for customer authentication by financial institutions, healthcare providers, managed service operators and telecommunications firms.
Clive holds a doctorate from the University of Sydney and a B.Sc(Hons) & DIS in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology (UK). He is a keen cyclist, regularly clocking 50 miles a week, and enjoys skiing, scuba diving and backpacking. He’s also an avid cook and has studied at the Sydney Seafood School.
Lead R&D Scientist
Joachim Hofer was acting product architect and researcher at Intel, since 2013. He was also Senior Software Engineer and Speech Scientist at VoiceBox Technologies, where he worked on the training of speech recognition models. Additionally, he has worked at SVOX, Siemens Corporate Research and Technology, and other renowned organizations dedicated to crafting the art of speech technology.
Joachim bolsters the LumenVox Europe team as an R&D Scientist. In this role, he contributes to the development of LumenVox’ own NLU engine.
Worldwide Director of Marketing
Melinda Ziemer, Worldwide Director of Marketing, is responsible for LumenVox’ marketing efforts across the globe. She has a strong background in not only marketing, but the biometrics industry as well, spending nearly a decade advertising voice biometrics across every vertical. She also worked for over six years facilitating the promotion of many LumenVox channel partners today, including Cisco and Avaya. With a diverse set of skills, including lead generation, email marketing, social media and business development, Melinda’s strength is strategic branding—she keeps the LumenVox name strong.
Melinda lives in the greater area of Los Angeles, CA. She has a BFA with an emphasis in Graphic Design from Cal State Fullerton. When she’s not working, she’s checking off another National Park from her bucket list, enjoying the outdoors, or enthusiastically cheering on her three kids from the sidelines.
