Advanced Filtering

One of the most powerful aspects of the LumenVox Speech Tuner is its ability to filter data based a number of factors. Indeed users can combine multiple filters at the same time to show only very specific interactions that may be of interest, even if the original dataset contained a large number of interactions.

In all of the Speech Tuner views, there is an option on the toolbar to access this Advanced Filtering functionality, called the Show Go Back History Button. In the Edit menu of every view, there is also an Advanced Filtering option listed, which will directly open the Advanced Filtering Dialog.

Show Go Back History Button

Although descriptive, this is a bit of a mouthful, so it is often called the Advanced Filtering Button.

The Show Go Back History button, when clicked will display a historic list or any filters that have been applied for the currently active dataset (the currently open Speech Tuner database).

Clicking this button brings up a context menu, showing the following options:

  • Go Home - This will remove any and all filters that are applied.
  • Go Back - This will remove the most recently added filter
  • Advanced Filtering - This will show the Advanced Filtering Dialog (described below)

In addition to these three options, any previously activated filters will also be shown above these options, and assigned a label, such as "Group 1", and some text to the right of the label, that describes the details of the type of filter that was applied.

Clicking on one of these previously activated filters will undo all filters going backwards to include the one you selected. So, for example if you had three previously applied filters named "Group 1", "Group 2" and "Group 3", then you selected "Group 2" from the context menu, both "Group 3" and then "Group 2" filters would be removed in that order, leaving only "Group 1" filter applied.

Clicking on the Advanced Filtering option will open the Advanced Filtering Dialog, which is described below, along with a deeper explanation of filtering in general.

Advanced Filtering Dialog

The Advanced Filtering Dialog can be used to modify existing filters, or to easily create new filters.

As can be seen from the example screen shot shown above, there can be a number of filters active at any particular time, and these filters can be based on a number of different criteria.

In the above example, the three filters are to show interactions that are (1) not Out-Of-Grammar, (2) of type SRE, and (3) contain the word 'Yes' somewhere in the transcript text.

This dialog allows you to filter data as you need, meaning you can look for very specific things within your dataset if you need to focus on something in particular.

In addition to this powerful dialog, which allows a large number of filter different criteria to be selected, the list shown also supports right-clicking, allowing individual filters, or all filters to be removed whenever needed.

Also, the Menu and Grammar Set dropdowns on the toolbar can be used to quickly filter based on a certain Menu (application dialog) or Grammar Set, as needed - this is in addition to the above Advanced Filtering options.

It may be of interest that when the Tuning Wizard is asking various questions when interpreting your data, it also perform filtering using the above mechanism behind the scenes, and also allows you to exit the Tuning Wizard at various points with the filters left in place, allowing you to more closely analyze the data if you wish. You can also remove these filters if you prefer too.
